Fixing what’s broken: Our funding projects 2024

Twelve new projects in this year’s funding program – 'Fixing what's broken. Together!' – started in September. This season we are specifically supporting cooperation projects that address social divisions and ecological crises. Their work stands for solidarity, community spirit, and respect. Get to know the funded projects here.

The Call

Sometimes the most precious things are also the most fragile: our planet’s thin atmosphere, for example, which allows us to breathe and live – or the networks of relationships we have with one another, within and in between societies as well as with our environment.
There is an enormous political, technological, and social pressure on these networks, which are based on trust and care, empathy and respect. Authoritarianism, the formation of ideological factions, discrimination and exclusion, the insistence on destructive economies, the exploitation of planetary resources, a polarizing media environment: all of these are cause for concern that we are moving past tipping points – both social and ecological. Recently, an increasing number of cracks have become visible between former allies and within progressive communities.

And yet there is cause for hope. Despite increasing pressure, networks have asserted themselves, and new alliances based on trust have emerged. This is exactly where the Allianz Foundation’s grant program comes in. With our call – “Fixing what's broken. Together!” – we support committed actors from the fields of European civil society, art and culture as well as climate and environment to build and protect resilient structures, fighting for a just future within the limits of our planet. Because what seems fragile is sometimes surprisingly sturdy.

“We support initiatives that prevent divisions in our minds from becoming divisions in our hearts. We want to support those who have the skills to bring back together what has drifted apart.”
Esra Küçük, CEO, Allianz Foundation
